Tips en tricks: start an internet page depending on a given answer

Suppose you ask in your form about which subject a respondent wants to receive more information.
Immediately after the form is submitted you want to start the web page that contains the information the chosen subject applies to.
Within the 'Settings'-tab of your form you can indicate which web page should appear after the form is submitted. In some situations you want a different web page to be loaded depending on a given answer in your form. Based on an example we explain how to make this. The example refers to a Formdesk web page. Of course you can refer to any web page you prefer.

This document discusses the following:

What you should know in advance

In order to make this, we use 'Dependencies'. This means we are going to hide or show questions depending on a given answer. The feature Dependencies is optional for standard subscriptions (small, medium or large) and is included for business subscription (bronze, silver or gold). Within the 'Settings'-tab of your form the option 'Url to start after form submission' allows you to start a page after the form is submitted. By using Identifiers we can start a page depending on a respondents given answer. An Identifier is a unique name assigned to each question.

Step by step

Step 1. Add a 'multiple-choice, select one'-question to the form and ask for the information the respondent wants to receive.
At the top right of the titlebar change the Identifier of this question into 'info'. State the following choices: 'features', 'pricing' and 'conditions'.

Step 2. Add a 'Text-Field' item to your form.
Change this Identifier into 'choice1'. Within the 'General'-tab check the option 'Hide this item'. In the default text field fill out the internet address of the page containing the concerning information. In this example 'https://www.formdesk.com/our_forms/features2’ is used.

Step 3. Define a dependency for this item
Within the 'Dependencies'-tab define to show this item only if the question 'info' has been answered with 'features'.

Step 4. Repeat step 2 and 3 for each next choice.
Use different default text. For pricing this is ‘https://www.formdesk.com/our_forms/pricing2_main’ and for conditions ‘https://www.formdesk.com/our_forms/conditions2’. Use different Identifiers: 'choice2' and 'choice3'. Use different dependencies.

Step 5. Fill out the field 'URL to start after form submission'
Within the 'Settings'-tab of the form at the 'URL to start after form submission' option fill out the Identifiers choice1, choice2 and choice3 (between brackets as showed in the screenshot below).

Explanation

Within the 'Questions'-tab the form looks like this:
However when you start the form it looks like this:
Since you have checked 'Hide this item' in the Text-Field-items these items are not visible. However, the dependencies you have defined are still working. You can see this within the 'Questions'-tab by choosing a subject.
An answer belonging to a question that is hidden or disabled by dependencies, is erased at form submission. This way only one answer (containing the relevant URL) is submitted. Formdesk will read this URL as the URL to start after form submission and the user will be redirected to this URL.
